love letters

I love to write. Always have. In high school English was my favorite because I felt it came the easiest. So it would be only natural that when I write, I express myself better than I ever could by saying words out loud. I love the idea of a trailing pen on paper with thoughts running wild in your mind. I've been contemplating to Google a way to start writing with a pen pal only because I feel like it would give me a rush being able to write about my life and expain it in my own (written) words. I have yet to make up my mind on that one though, because in the meantime I have the perfect pen pal. The only difference is this pal can not write me back yet. My pal can not even read them yet, but I'll hold on to them until that day comes. Who is my pal, you ask? My son. I've only written him a couple letters here and there starting when he was first born because as any mom would tell you, I was bombarded with emotions. I had to get it out and what better way to fully explain how I felt but to write it and address it to the person who was making my heart flutter like no other. I write him about how I'll always be here for him and how much he means to me yadda yadda yadda. I never forget to mention intricate details of his life at the current moment. Like in this last letter I just finished, how he's nearing 27 pounds and how I pray he'll start walking full speed soon because carrying a hefty baby on one hip and a hefty purse on the other is not something I can continue for much longer. All joking aside I do take pride in these love because I know how near and dear they will be to him one day. I encourage all moms and dads to write their children no matter the age so they can keep your feelings in a tangible way. You wouldn't believe how important something so small could mean to someone else. Just to look at your handwriting one more time, or read your words and hear your voice in their head. I hope that one day Nicolas will cherish these forever just as much as I cherish writing them to him.

  1. I should totally do this, I know exactly what you mean about expressing yourself better on paper (or typing!) I'm the same way. :)

  2. OMG that is so sweet. I wanted to write letters to my daughter too, but haven't really kept up with it. I've written one short one, but really want to do some more. Thanks for setting such a good example and encouraging us to do something so sweet!
